OMG! I almost forgot to tell you. I just graduated from a query workshop held by the fabulous CJ Redwine. And let me tell ya, this girl whipped my freakishly craptastic query into shape. So for those of you who are struggling with your queries--or even just wanting a professional opinion--you must check out her workshop. She also offers a course on synopses, about which I've heard nothing but amazing things. Don't feel bad if your query or synopsis sucks--it's not a sign of your writing ability. Seriously. The fact is, most writers are just too damn close to their work, and this makes it stupid difficult to work out what to highlight in your summaries. I'm almost afraid to admit that it took me six effing drafts to get this query right, but CJ held my hand through the entire process, refusing to give even a single wonky phrase a pass. It's a thing of beauty now, one I will be proud to send out to agents. So go sign up. t minimum, check out her blog. She does terrific things with a Spork of Doom and Manolo Blahniks. Actually, I'm pretty convinced she could hike Antarctica in a pair of five-inch stilettos with nothing but a case of gin and a boa. Yeah. She's that awesome.

******************

Alright, folks. You may not see me for a while.

I’m sure I’ll be around, though, stalking like a cougar.

Yeah. I went there.

*Shrugs*        ……       He’s legal.   .......       Isn't he?

I understand the reason...but depressed by the result.

Congrats to you for all your awards! See you soon so you can earn some more. :)

  5. Wow, those abs...I'm blinded!

Thanks for all these links! Those workshops sound great, and good luck with querying!

  6. don't even know where to start with this one. Um, that book looks awesome. And I keep losing my train of thought because... uh, where was I going with this....

    ooooo look at those ABS.

    Um...

Oh yeah, CJ's workshops are awesome :-)

  7. Woot! Good luck!

Also, he may be legal now...but was he legal when that picture was taken? That's the real question. ;)

  8. Congrats on your graduation, good lady! And, um, we'll miss you on your bloggie vacation. Hopefully you'll be better at taking one than I've been. :)

Best of luck with the edits! You'll rock 'em, I'm sure.

  9. Hooray for the 26th. To quote Rob Schneider in Happy Gilmore, "You can do it, Carol!" Okay, I obviously added the Carol. Get those letters out, girl. (Plus, have a nice weekend.)

    ReplyDelete
  10. OH YEAH. And also, now that I know your date? I'm gonna be SO on your ass to get the MS ready to go!

Um, also I am off to finish my remarks on it :-)

  11. *draws a circle around March 26th on her calendar in BRIGHT YELLOW HIGHLIGHTER*

And yes, thank the Lord, he's legal. I really didn't think I had enough in the bank for bail.

Although, is it REALLY a crime to stalk ... er ... tackle ... no, wait ... politely approach an actor whose six-pack ... no ... skills you admire and offer to bake him some homemade lemon bars if he'll just come quietly without making you use the duct tape you had the foresight to bring?

    I didn't think so.

  12. So much awesome stuff crammed into one post! I wish you only happy thoughts and good luck while you work to beat that deadline. I envy you that amazing goodie package (that I didn't win *sniff*). And I've heard nothing but INCREDIBLE things about C.J.'s courses. I may have to jump on that one. :-)

    I miss you already!

  13. Carol,
I know you'll ace it. And I'm right behind you. I have to query before I get busy with the spring garden and all that jazz. Have to, have to. And thanks for the link. I do so want a pimp--I mean agent. I know what you mean about getting sucked into the blogosphere. So good luck!! I never did put Remy up on my blog. Why the hesitation? I don't know. I may still. See you on the other side, when we break on through!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Go!You!

Good luck with the deadline and the whole query process. You are so gonna rock some agent's socks. :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Good luck! We will miss ya. You can do it! Well, I know you can because you are awesome and you will kick butt! When I am ready I will check out the query link.
    See you on the flipside:)

  16. I hope you do better than I did. I'm still stuck on the blog ride. Good Luck with the agent-quest, I know you'll do great. Go you! Carol is Brilliant, Carol is Brilliant, Carol is Brilliant.

  17. I'm sure your query rocks. Will keep fingers and toes crossed for you. Though please don't leave me hanging for too long. Don't want my extremities to fall off - would not be a good look I feel.

PS. Keep a leash on Lolita!

    Good luck with the queries...

  19. Go Carol! You can do it! WooHoo!

Yup, I'll definitely miss you around here, but those bloggy breaks work wonders for your ms, and that has to come first:) Hope I'll catch ya on Twitter some.

And I'm so glad you went there cause I did too:)

  20. Sometimes you've gotta just do it. Wishing you a shiny manuscript making agents sit up and notice! See ya when you're back,

    ReplyDelete
  21. March 26th!?!?! So exciting! I'm marking my calendar!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wishing you and soon to be missing you...the best.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yum! That picture is fabulous!!! I must steal it now and set it as my wallpaper (shh... don't tell anyone).

Good luck with your queries! And Kristi is the BOMB!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hope you make your deadline. If you spend as much time "writing" as you did on this last blog, there is not doubt you will make it. I had to laugh at all "one more thing". Sounds like me when I'm trying to wrap things up (lol).

Go forth and write well author lady. And then, land that agent with the most awesome query ever!

    ..........dhole

  25. Good. Stay outta the blogosphere so the rest of us can win something! lol. kidding...kind of.
Congrats on being so close to querying. That's exciting. :) Can't wait to see your crazy post and what pic you'll post when the agent offers start pouring in.
Enjoy your blog break. We'll miss you.

    ReplyDelete
  26. J. Koyanagi, you are so kind. Thank you! The same to you.

Courtney, OMG, total hottie, yeah? Thank you for your encouragement. I'll definitely be keeping in touch!

Lola, love that! I shall do my best to live hard core.

Jemi, now THAT is encouragement. How awesome it would be to start querying even sooner! I still have a bit of tweaking to do and my synopsis (oh brother!). We'll seee hw it goes. But thank you!

DL, awwww. Don't be depressed. I'll be back! But how sweet ofyou to wave me off ;)

Lady Glamis, the abs sold me, for sure! ha! Thank you for the well wishes. Hoping all goes well.

  27. Sara, hahahaha! I feel like printing that photo out and just sticking it at the top of my computer monitor for inspiration. Hot tamales!

CJ, you and your wicked yellow highlighter. That sucker scares the daylights out of me, yet it's oddly reassuring. What a bizarre mixture of emotions. Highlighter aside, I think I will have to agree with you. Totally not a crime. Not at all...um, but you know, be careful when you let him know about the duct tape--make sure it's AFTER he agrees to come quietly because I'm not so sure I have the bail money to get you out--I mean, not that it's a crime or anything. Hahahaha! (I feel the need to insert the ha! here as I've got a stellar non-insane, totally unfreaky reputation to maintain *clears throat* Don't check my previous post).

Heather, it is quite possibly that he may or may not have been legal when that picture may or may not have been taken. Tere. I think that gets me out of hot water. ha! Thanks for your encouragement, m'dear. <3

Roxy, I would have loved it very much had he actually said the "Carol" part in his movie. Alas, no one seems to use my name much in movies or songs. There is one, I think it's called "When Last I spoke to Carol" but it's about her suicide I think, and that's not really what I had in mind. ha! But thank you for being so sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Simon, thank you...that was a hard won graduation, for sure. CJ's a tough sergeant, but It's why my query is so sparkly now. But darn if she didn't make me cry out, "I suck!!" just a few times. ha! But it was all for my own good. I think it's important that we all address our inner suckness from time to time. How else to not suck, right? Haha. Love CJ. And thank you for the well wishes. Don't be surprised if I ping you about 5000 times over the next couple weeks begging you to take a look at yet another rewrite.

Sara, somehow I knew you would say that. And I so <3 you for bustin your hiney to get me my critiques. You rock girl. And you've totally whipped my ms into shape. You know your stuff, girl. I like to think of myself as a lucky sort of person, but meeting you was definitely like more than I could have hoped for. You rock. <3 <3 <3

Shannon, you are sooooo kind. I just adore you. I miss you already, too. I will struggle to stay away entirely, I'm sure. Thank you so much for your well wishes.

Yvonne, let me know when you put Remy up so I can pimp it. If you don't do it soon, I may just have to do it for you ;) And yes, get to querying soon!!! You'll have an agent before the hostas are fully grown. Thank you for your kind words as well. I'm certain you'll be the same.

Sarahjayne, such a scary process! But thank you. Hope I have the stamina and strength for it. :) But I feel better with so much gracious encouragement.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Christine, thank you!!! That means a lot to me. And yes, be sure to check out the workshop. I think the one really great thing it did for me was to make me feel reassured that I was going out with the best possible query. There are so many uncertainties in this game, that if you can have at least one thing that you feel kind of sure about, it feels like an ace up your sleeve. I will be checking on your progress!

Piedmont, awwwwww...that's so hard. I don't know how I'll fare, to be honest. It's a fickle business, and all the cars sort of have to fall just right. But if you don't take the chance, you'll never know. But you know, the game's not over for you either. I think you have a brilliant writing future ahead of you. I look forward to he day I can buy your book at B&N. But thank you for your kind encouragement.

Wendy, and you have such beautiful extremities. It would certainly not do to have them fall off. I'll be sure to check in periodically so as to save your poor fingers and toes. In fact, I think Lolita has a vlog she would like to do fairly soon. Perhaps I'll have to interrup my hiatus with that one ;) Thanks for the well wishes, luv

Elizabeth, thank you, sweetie!! Looking forward to getting those queries out there (not quite as much to the rejections, but eh...)

Melissa, I hope it'll be a productive hiatus. I will definitely look out for you on Twitter. Thanks for the encouragment, sweetie!

Tricia, you are so right. Sometimes, you just have to! Ultimately, it's all about the writing, right? I look forward to coming back, though. Thanks for your kind wishes!

LiLa, it's now a feared date in my mind. I certainly hope I will make it. *sigh* I have to now that I have so stupidly announced it. But thank you ;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Liza, you are too kind. Thank you. I will be sure to check in on you! You have too many good things to share with the world that I don't want to miss it.

Kimberly, your secret is safe with me ;) Thanks for the well wishes!! Crossing my fingers on this one. And yes, Kristi rocks!! <3

Donna, that's pretty much how I end every conversation...wait, one more thing! ha! I'm quite nervous about the query process, but I rhope it goes alright. Wait, one more thing...thank you for the encouragment. It means a lot.

Karen, hahahaha! That's actually super funny because your contest was one of the ones I won! ha! Thanks for the kind words. I promise if I do get an agent offer, there is sure to be a crazy post about it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. WOW! On top of everything else, you've provided a great list of sites and blogs for me to visit. Thanks for the mention, my friend, and good luck with your queries. That's how I'll be spending the next few months as well (unless the agent pitch session on March 26th is successful). Hope to see you back soon.

And you are too sweet! Seriously! Best of luck with the querying...not that you need it!

We'll miss you but I know what you mean about pulling the plug...I always get too sucked into the blogosphere too!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Patricia, Aw, thank! And good luck in your query madness (although hopefully your pitch session will be successful and then you can forgo the crazy!). Thanks for the award on. I'll be sure to post it and pass it on soon.

Dawn, Thank you so much! It's goign to be insanity, I'm sure. But a little more insanity won't hurt. I hope.

Kristi, ha! Any time, luv. Happy to post this one ;) Thanks for the well wishes! I will do my best with them. And thanks again for the award and for the fab prizes. I can't wait to dive into The Wolf Within! Looking forward to being back soon.

  48. Hi Carol,
I just wanted to let you know I left you a little something over at my blog. I'm sure you'll never guess what it is! Good luck with meeting your self-imposed deadline. Mine is April 1st. How dumb is that?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jon Paul, thank you! It's been a bit maddening trying to get everything done, especially since I've taken ill. But still trudging ahead. Thanks so much for the award! You are too kind. I'll run over and check it out now.

Yvonne, you are so thoughtful and sweet. Thanks so much. I'm very curious as to what it is! Thank you for the well-wishes. Good luck with your query deadline, too! I'll bekeeping tabs on you now ;) It may end up that I'll be bumping my deadline to April 1 as well. I've been quite sick at it's really interrupted my progress. Blah! But hopefully all will go smoothly for both of us here on out.
